Access to Care: How to Find Health Care for Priority Populations Statewide

Texas Cancer Information’s Access to Cancer Care for Low-Income and Uninsured Texans is your guide to cancer screening and treatment services for low-income and uninsured Texans.

TCI has completed the Access to Care resource for all 254 Texas counties. We’re now working on translating these resources into Spanish, starting with counties with the highest Spanish-speaking populations. The following 31 counties are now available in Spanish:

Care at the County and Community Level

Access to Care offers patients, social workers, case managers and others information for cancer screening and treatment at the county and community level.

This information is presented in a simple question-and-answer format, as well as low-literacy language. Access to Care is available as an online resource, or you can print the PDF document.

TCI staff ensures content accuracy by verifying and updating contact and program information at least once a year.

Be sure to check out this useful tool on the TCI Web site at www.texascancer.info/access/.

Online Resources For Community Coalitions

If you’re a member of a community coalition, or you want to know what’s going on in your local coalition, log onto TCI’s Community Cancer Coalitions page.

We provide updated information to help our partners who are fighting cancer at the grass-roots level. As a special service to our community partners, we have prepared Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas Cancer Profiles of counties that have cancer coalitions in one or more of their communities. These PDF reports, which include graphs and charts, can be printed and shared with community members and policy planners. Each Profile provides a picture of the impact of cancer on the county in terms of cancer incidence and mortality and the availability of cancer resources. Coalition members can also generate non-graphical profiles to get the most up-to-date statistical and resource information (which are updated throughout the year) by visiting the Regional Profiles page and clicking on County Cancer Profiles.

Let us know if you don’t see your coalition listed in our Community Cancer Coalitions Database. We would like your help to keep our information accurate and up-to-date. To give us information about your coalition, e-mail us at info@texascancer.info.

Also, spread the word among your community cancer coalition members – you can post your upcoming events and meetings on the Community Events page at http://www.texascancer.info/communityevents.html

Secure Online Forum Coming for Community Coalition Members

By popular demand, TCI is developing a free, secure online forum for community cancer coalition members statewide to share ideas about their respective projects. TCI will host an open comment thread for coalition members to communicate with each other using this secure site. The forum will be by invitation, and access will be password restricted. Stay tuned to the TCI Web site for more information as the forum develops!
