Data used in the profiles were taken from multiple Texas Cancer Information databases. More detailed information on specific resources or demographics may be obtained by searching the corresponding databases. Resource counts are as of the date that appears on the profile.

Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas Cancer Profiles   Updated!



The Texas Cancer Council Cancer Profiles provide an overview of cancer in Texas and in its ten most populous counties. Sections of the profiles include Cancer Deaths, Cancer by Type ,Cancer Rates by Race/Ethnicity and Cancer Type, Population at Risk, Cancer Resources, Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) Programs, Additional Texas/National Programs, and National Cancer Institute-Designated Cancer Centers in Texas.

Data used in the profiles were taken from multiple Texas Cancer Information databases. More detailed information on specific resources or demographics may be obtained by searching the appropriate database. Resource counts are as of the date that appears on the profile. For the most current resource counts for any Texas county, please search our County Cancer Profiles database.

The profile documents are in PDF format. You will need the free Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) Reader to view the profiles.

*Note: The top ten counties were selected based on 2008 population estimates from the Texas State Data Center. The data have been reaggregated by race for the racial/ethnic breakdowns used to calculate mortality rates. The coding system used for the cancer deaths is the 10th Revision of the International Classification of Diseases, (ICD-10). To view the most current mortality and population for any Texas county and updated resource counts, please search our County Cancer Profiles database.

In this database, information from multiple TCDC databases and other sources is used to create and display cancer demographics of Texas counties and a summary of cancer resources available to residents of these counties. Data are drawn from the following databases: Texas Cancer Deaths and Age-Adjusted Mortality Rates, Texas Population, Hospitals, Community Cancer Treatment Centers, Mammography Services, Home Health Agencies, and Hospices. Only counts are displayed for resource information and only summary information is displayed for cancer deaths and population. More detailed information on specific resources or demographics may be obtained by searching the appropriate database.
