The material is unsatisfactory if it is not interactive, if it does not directly involve the audience. Be aware if no follow-up information or course of action is provided, or the course of action is unrealistic for the readers' capabilities.

Is the tone positive and upbeat?

Does the material avoid overuse of negative wording such as "don't eat...you shouldn't." Avoid stereotypes and any tone that is condescending to the reader. Be sure to incorporate customs and values of the particular Hispanic audience. Use language that is positive and pro-active.

Material can be ineffective if the tone is neutral or negative (i.e. uses wording such as "don't do...you shouldn't") and perpetuates negative stereotypes.

Is the cost of the material feasible?

Look for material where there is little or no cost or it is easy to photocopy. Although slick, expensive materials may have high appeal with your audience, they will not serve their purpose if they cost too much to produce enough copies to reach the target population. Designing materials that are easy to photocopy is a good way to ensure inexpensive distribution.
